What happened

MCA released the full tracklist for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping (The Album) on Nov. 2, 2026. The Sunrise on the Reaping album has 29 tracks, comes out Nov. 13 and features Ella Langley, Tyler Childers, Kacey Musgraves, Stevie Nicks, the Cure and cast members Jennifer Lawrence, Mckenna Grace and Whitney Peak. Grammy winner Dave Cobb executive produced it.

Key takeaways

  • The movie opens in theaters Nov. 20, one week after the album, and Deadline reports it is tracking toward a $60 million to $70 million North American opening.
  • Lionsgate also announced that Meta converted the film to 3D, and that version will play on Meta's $1,299 VR glasses when they launch in spring 2027.
  • James Newton Howard's score gets its own album on Nov. 20, separate from this companion record.

Hunger Games soundtracks have a habit of outliving the movies they were made for, and the label behind the next one clearly knows it. On Monday, MCA posted the full tracklist for the companion album to The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, and "hunger games" hit Google's U.S. trending list with more than 2,000 searches within hours.

The draw is the names. Country's biggest new star sits next to Stevie Nicks, the Cure and the Smashing Pumpkins. And Jennifer Lawrence is back on a Hunger Games record, more than a decade after she first played Katniss.

What's on the Sunrise on the Reaping album

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping (The Album) runs 29 tracks and arrives Friday, Nov. 13, on MCA, a week ahead of the film. It leans hard on country, Americana and rock, with some pop mixed in, plus a long list of newer artists most casual listeners won't know yet.

A few things stand out on a first read:

  • Whitney Peak shows up four times. Peak plays Lenore Dove Baird, Haymitch's girlfriend, and her three-part "The Raven" plus "The Goose and The Common" act almost like chapter breaks.
  • Lawrence sings "Deep in the Meadow," the lullaby Katniss sings in the original story. Variety reports she is understood to have a small part in the new movie.
  • Ella Langley's "Here Then We're Gone" is track 8. Variety notes she has the year's biggest single in "Choosin' Texas" and its second-biggest album so far.
  • Some tracks aren't new. Kacey Musgraves' "Ruthless," Stevie Nicks' "Doing The Best That I Can" and Depeche Mode's "Survive" come as "Arena Mix" versions, and the Cure closes the album with a 2022 live recording of "Alone" from Berlin.

Three songs are already streaming: Noah Kahan's lead single "Draw You Out," the Smashing Pumpkins' "Black Stars" and Gigi Perez's "Favor," all released in October.

Why it sounds like a Nashville record

That comes down to who built it. Dave Cobb, the Grammy-winning producer known for records with Chris Stapleton, Brandi Carlile and Jason Isbell, is the executive producer. He is also now one of the top executives at MCA, the Nashville label releasing the album. Cobb worked on the music for A Star Is Born and Elvis, and on the companion album for the last Hunger Games film, 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.

He told Billboard the project let his team pick from a "fantasy league" of artists, and that the common thread was honesty. Most of the singers had already read the book, he said. Gigi Perez was the first to send back a song, and Noah Cyrus wrote hers with specific characters in mind.

His favorite story involves the Pumpkins. "Black Stars" puts the band back in the room with Butch Vig, who produced its 1993 album Siamese Dream, the record Cobb says got him into the group. Cobb also singled out two of the lesser-known names, Madeline Edwards and Carter Faith, as voices that could catch people off guard.

Will you hear these songs in the movie?

Probably not many. Variety calls this an old-fashioned "inspired by" album, in the tradition of the earlier Hunger Games records, where few of the songs end up in the film itself. Those earlier collections still produced radio staples, including Taylor Swift's "Safe & Sound" and Lorde's "Yellow Flicker Beat."

The music that actually plays under the action is James Newton Howard's score. That arrives as its own album on Nov. 20, the same day the film opens.

When Sunrise on the Reaping hits theaters

The movie opens nationwide Friday, Nov. 20, 2026, from Lionsgate. Francis Lawrence, who has directed every Hunger Games film since Catching Fire, is back behind the camera, working from a script by Billy Ray based on Suzanne Collins' 2025 novel.

The story jumps back 24 years before Katniss. Joseph Zada plays a 16-year-old Haymitch Abernathy from District 12, reaped for the 50th Hunger Games, the Second Quarter Quell, which sends twice the usual number of tributes into the arena. Woody Harrelson originated the grown-up Haymitch in the first four films. Mckenna Grace plays fellow tribute Maysilee Donner, and Ralph Fiennes takes over as President Snow.

Deadline reports the film is expected to open to $60 million to $70 million in North America. For scale, DC's Clayface took No. 1 over Oct. 23-25 with an estimated $24 million opening.

The 3D and Meta VR glasses deal

Monday brought a second Hunger Games announcement. Lionsgate and Meta said Meta handled the film's 3D conversion with visual effects studio DNEG, the first time Meta has teamed with a Hollywood studio to convert a movie to 3D. Advance tickets for 3D showings are on sale now.

After its theatrical run, the 3D cut will play on Meta's VR glasses, which Variety reports will cost $1,299 when they go on sale in spring 2027. Francis Lawrence said in a statement that 3D gave the filmmakers another way to pull audiences into Haymitch's point of view. Lionsgate says more of its films will come to the glasses later, without naming them yet.

What fans can do before Nov. 13

Pre-orders for the album are open through MCA. The three early singles are already on streaming services, and the other 26 tracks drop at once on release day.

The order is worth noticing. Peak's "The Raven" opens the record and recurs through the first half, and Lawrence's lullaby comes near the end, followed by Kahan's lead single, Violet Grohl and the Cure. Whether that sequence tracks the film's plot is something the studio hasn't said. Fans will find out a week later, when the movie fills in the rest.
